Nuuk (Summer)

NUUK, THE CAPITAL METROPOLIS OF THE NORTH

With it's close to 17.000 citizens, Nuuk is the Capital and largest city in Greenland.

Nuuk was established and founded back in 1728, by a Danish-Norwegian missionary named: "Hans Egede".

You can find a church named after him in the city and a statue as well.

Though being the Capital city of Greenland, Nuuk is anything but your ordinary Capital city, as you can find basically anything from: Greenlandic culture and hospitality, cuisine, history, nature, art, architectural infrastructure, which all blends in with the modern society.

Here you can find the National Museum of Greenland, which was the first museum in Greenland and in which collections from archaeology, recent Greenlandic history, arts and crafts can be seen.

You also have the Museum of Local History and the Nuuk Art Museum.

This is where the famous large culture center "Katuaq" is located, in which it's architectual structure and design is inspired from the famous Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), making it having a wavey design.

Katuaq has a large cinema theater and where several events, such as concerts, art exhibitions, cultural events and conference meetings and presentations are held throughout the year.

You will also be able to find a café here which serves Greenlandic tapas and great coffee for coffee-lovers!

Nuuk has the first largest department store and shopping mall in Greenland, called: "Nuuk Center", with several fashion boutiques, souvenir shops, a restaurant, a supermarket and a café.

As you can find the second largest fjord system in the world in these parts, Nuuk is surrounded by beautiful picturesque nature, such as it mountainous fjords with rivers running through them, where you can find huts and cottages which can be rented, if you would like to get out in the beautiful Greenlandic nature and smell the fresh nature air.

Nuuk is a great place for the astonishing light-shows of the natural phenomena of Northern Lights (Aurora Boralis) on clear days during the winter, where photographers can get some great pictures and memories to take back home.

Nuuk indeed has a lot to offer and is called colourful in many aspects, be it either summer or winter, so feel free to contact us for any potential inquiries that you might have about this great metropolis of the arctic!
